MXStats is a free timing software for recording lap times with immediate direct evaluation.
Starting numbers can be entered manually, via network or transponder.
MXStats can be used for circuit tracks with exactly one single logical (but certainly several physical) counting unit(s)
and also for tracks with separate start and finish couting unit(s).
Due to the file starters.csv/xls, it is possible to dynamically assign more information to a starting number.
For example, first name, last name, club, etc. A infinite number of columns with user-definable names can be added.
An example is available at downloads.
Notes and results can be exported as PDF, CSV and HTML format. This also can be triggered automatically at regular intervals,
which creates a kind of backup function, as notes in HTML format can be reloaded at any time.
Results can also be separated by a user defined criteria to evaluate, for example, several separate classes.
Results can also be grouped by a user defined criteria, which allows an evaluation for teams.
HTML exports can be automatically uploaded to an FTP server. This requires a configuration file ftp.properties
located in the directory of MXStats. An example is available at downloads.
To browse the HTML results Opera, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 8+ is required.
If the HTML results are provided via FTP upload Opera browser is recommended because it has an buildt-in auto-refresh function.
Alternatively, Mozilla Firefox with a plug-in can be used.
Individual results with one page per participant can be generated in PDF format.
An example is shown in the screenshots. The pages of the PDF's can include with a watermark.
Therefor simply put an image named "watermark.jpg" with 842 pixels height and 594 pixels width to the MXStats directory.
To specify event, location und date a file named event.properties can be placed in the MXStats directory.
The specified information is used at the exports afterwards. A template is available at downloads.
Transponder:
It's not possible to assign more than one starting number to one RFID tag.
However it's possible to assign the same starting number to different RFID tags.
The tag-starting number assignment can be exported an imported.
If a RFID tag gets lost or broken, even during the race, a new RFID tag can be assigned.
Currently 6 different types of RFID readers are supported.
Other transponder systems can simply & quickly be integrated.
If you work only with the manual inputs and the number of participants is not greater than 40, then the "Quick input mode" can be used.
In thsi case the inputs don't have to be confirmed by hitting the return key and start the 40 starting numbers each are directly assigned to a single key.
Info: Via USB several keyboards can be connected simultaneously to one single computer.
MXStats can send and receive inputs from the local network. Thus each instalation can act as a server or a client.
Via local network you can connect the AddOnScreens ScoreBoard, ResultBoard, TimePanel and LapPanel
which provide useful information for participants / spectators. For these optional Add-On programs
additional monitors at the local PC or more individual computers are needed. For details, see the screenshots.
If an AddOnScreen doesn't work (NoRouteToHostException) because the used computer is not connected to a network,
the installation of the Microsoft Loopback Adapter will solve this problem.
Windows 7 users can find an instruction here.
The time from the start to the first checkpoint can
- be added to the first lap
- be counted as a seperate lap
- be ignored
In general it's recommended to set "add to first lap" which is the default setting.
This option can only be applied if a manual start of the race is used.
If the race is started automatically by a drive through the checkpoint, the time from the start to the first checkpoint will be ignored.
If it's necessary to give lap or time penalties, corresponding properties files have to be placed in the directory of MXStats.
Filenames and file-structure are evident from the examples at downloads. Time penalties occur in units of seconds.
Important: Lap/time penalties for individual riders and teams are separated, which means that lap/time penalties for individual riders do not affect the team evaluation of this rider.
To realize championships a logarithmic scoring has been introduced. Here the winner of a
race gets 1000 points. The amount of points drops harder for the first ranks and drops more softly for the later ranks.
Example based on a race with 100 riders
When MXStats is closed, changed values of most textfields are automatically stored in the file MXStats.cfg.
In contrast values of checkboxes are hardly saved in MXStats.cfg because they mainly trigger actions or control
the progress of the race. To prevent you from setting the same options each time at constant requirements
the file autoexec.properties can be used for automatically setting various options immediately after the program-start.
A sample file is available at downloads.
Special attention was paid to fit everything on one screen without complicated menu structures or additional windows,
to ensure MXStats is well-arranged and easy to operate.
The number of program files has been kept as small as possible.
MXStats itself and the AddOnScreens consist of one single EXE file and don't have to be installed.
This makes them ideal for transportation for example on a USB-Stick.
Furthermore they don't access the windows registry or any other directory than their own.
